The history of the farm “Il Poggio” is nearly as ancient as its land, which has always rewarded men´s hard work with quality fruit. The fame of Il Poggio’s wines has been testified since 845 when it was acclaimed in the archiepiscopal archives of Lucca. At that time the estate belonged to the ancient farm of “San Piero in Campo”. Today the farm, owned by lord Gualtiero Rossi, has been completely renewed and production of the wine and olive-oil is now open to visitors with traditional Tuscan hospitality – Guests coming from all over the world are welcomed by ancient and delicious Tuscan recipes in a space-less and time-less atmosphere. During the winter season the old wine cellar becomes a warm and welcoming dining-room. In spring and autumn, if the weather is fine, it is wonderful to dine outside and enjoy the warmth of the first or last sunbeams. In summer the ancient trees of the large park offer a cool shelter from the heat and in the evenings torches and lamps create a magical setting Read more »

Fattoria Il Poggio on Snooth

  • A friend sent us a bottle of wine from Italy while traveling. It was Fattoria Il Poggio Incantate. We are by no means wine experts, but we loved this wine. Now I can't find it in the U.S.and i would like to know if it is available in the U.S. or shipped from Italy. I would be interested in buying some. Thank you. Lea Wilson Orange, TX 77632

  • Early in my exploration of wine, I settled on Brunello Di Montalcino as one of my favorites, and eventually as my single favorite. Since then, I’ve been asked many times, “Why this wine? What’s so special about Brunello?”  Some have wondered why I would have embraced a wine that they view as “big” and masculine, since people new to wine tend tow... Read More

  • Often overlooked, and suffering still from its days in straw covered fiasci, Chianti continues to offer great value to the savvy shopper. A large region of Tuscany is devoted to the production of Chianti of all sorts and stripes, and while the wines may not be the rock bottom values of the past, they are also not the thin, shrill wines they once... • This is the second part in a three part series on wine prices over the past decade. Part one can be found here, and today I follow up with part two, a look at Tuscan wines and the wines of the Rhone Valley. I love Tuscan wines and I love Sangiovese. Pure, fresh, fruity and austere all at once, it’s one of the greatest food wines on the planet, a... Read More

  • Somehow, it seems this piece has fallen on deaf ears, which confuses me, because it seems like everyone is talking about 2007 Brunello di Montalcino elsewhere.  Is this not a topic of interest? If not, that's fine, but I'd like to give it another shot.So I thought I'd put it here on the forum and see if maybe it somehow got missed. http://www.sn... Read More

  • Went to Fattoria il Poggio in 2007; was fabulous one of the highlights of our trip. Had some wine sent home and just finished a bottle of 2004 Vin Santo which was superb as well. Highly recommend this stop on any tour. I will stop again

  • I'll be in Italy in a little over a week, and i'm just starting to plan logistics for the few days i'll have over there.  I will be on a cruise, so the ports are Naples, Florence/Pisa, and Rome.  Would be most interested in seeing Tuscany here on my first trip to Italy, but i'm also concerned that from Florence/Pisa, I could be spending up to ar... • A friend and I had a regions-of-the-world tasting, and we had a Brunello that we loved (Nardi 2003).  I paid about $37 for it, but it was on sale and is more like $60-$80.  My friend has been learning more about wine recently, and was really ecstatic about this bottle.  I told her that she has expensive taste and she's going to have to spend abo... • I was fortunate enough to visit Fattoria il Poggio in September 2010, as part of an Insight Vacation Tour through Europe. It would have to rate as one of the absolute highlights of my holiday - great food, great wine, and sitting out under the Tuscan Sun for the afternoon - can't really think of any better way to spend an afternoon!!
